Esko Industries redesigns the Esko Oval Gear Meter

Esko Industries is proud to introduce the next generation of Oval Gear flow monitoring systems. The new design incorporates many new enhancements over the old oval gear flowmeters and systems, including the following:

  • Modular flowmeter design - Flow points can be re-sized without disconnecting the distribution manifold, and bypass valves allow such modifications to be made without the need for a machine shutdown. The new design allows after purchase re-sizing of individual flow points without the added expense of purchasing entire replacement meter blocks, and the further expense of piping work for removal and reinstallation.
  • Modular manifold design - An improved inlet manifold design allows the addition of flow points as necessary, again without the added cost of replacing entire flowmeter blocks. Multiple inlets are possible for applications requiring large numbers of flow measurement points on single manifolds.
  • Modern proximity sensors - The proximity sensors used to detect gear rotation are equipped with visual indicators, which can be easily seen from a distance, ensuring easy diagnostics of individual flow points.
  • Modern interface electronics - Local operation and configuration is accomplished through an easy to use, secure touchscreen display, available in various sizes to suit all customer needs. Industry standard electronics provide a comprehensive set of features to meet most interface requirements.
  • Updated control room monitoring program - The latest Esko Flow control room program provides full real-time logging of all flow points, limited only by disk capacity.

Esko Oval Gear Meters in the movies

Esko Industries supplied oval gear meters for set decoration in the United Pictures feature film "The Chronicles of Riddick", starring Vin Diesel. The oval gear meters were custom built, and were used in the movie as working components aboard the interstellar spaceship knows as the C-17 Flattery Undercutter. The application was for the measurement of cryo-suspension liquid in cryo-lockers onboard the spaceship. The Undercutter belonged to the merc Toombs, except when it was 'borrowed' by Riddick for his cryo-sleep transit to Helion Prime.

Lawrence Ong and Pia Kuittinen, Esko Industries Ltd.

There is an increased focus on bearing lubrication in most paper mill production environments. Bearings are the heart of the machine and each unscheduled shutdown due to bearing failure is a major expense. Mills are intensifying efforts to find cost-effective ways to reduce their costly downtime and improve maintenance practices. World-class companies have introduced predictive maintenance programs and preventive maintenance is becoming standard practice during scheduled shutdowns....(cont'd)

Double your felt life with the Es-Trac 2000 non-contact fabric guide system - Customer Feed Back

As part of an on-going upgrade program, several mills have installed non-contact felt edge measurement and control.

- A mill in eastern Washington state recently installed three systems in the first three Uni-Run positions in their dryer. This dryer has a series of short dryer sections and control of the felt was a problem. There is no longer a problem.

- Another mill in the same vicinity has gone on record stating they have enough history to claim that the Es-Trac 2000 edge guiding system has tripled the life of their felt. A third system is about to the installed.

- In New Brunswick the UPM mill in Miramichi has edge control systems on all eight dryer felts. Felt guiding is no longer an issue at the morning meeting.
