Viscosity Calculator

Calculate viscosity, given oil grade and operating temperature.

The viscosity of oil at a given temperature can be determined mathematically if the characteristics of the oil are known. These characteristics are published by oil producers, and are typically plotted on special graph paper for interpolation of viscosity at various temperatures. This web page eliminates the need for charts by doing the math for you. We've pre-entered the constants for typical ISO grade oils, and have also done the math to help you estimate the viscosity at new operating temperatures.

The information presented here is based on generic oil information for typical lubricating oils. For more accurate results, use the Advanced Viscosity Calculator along with the oil producer specifications for your specific oil.

Please keep in mind, however, that for the most accurate viscosity values, the exact specifications for a given oil should be used, and should be verified with a viscosimeter.
